What TOG do I need for the spring and summer?
Share
Spring is in the air and with the warmer weather, your baby’s sleep sacks or sleep suit may need to change as well.
If you live in a place where there are colder temperatures in the fall and winter, you may have been using a heavier TOG to keep your bubs warm and comfortable through the nights.
If you’re a new or expecting mom, you may be wondering, “What is TOG?”. To help you choose the right wearable blanket, all of Nest Design’s sleep sacks and sleep suits are rated by TOG. The Thermal Overall Grade or TOG is an industry measurement for a product’s thermal insulation or how warm the product is. Learn more about TOG and how you can find the right sleepwear for your bub here.
TOGs for the Spring and Summer
To keep your bubs comfortable through the spring and summer nights, you’ll need a sleep sack or sleep suit with a lighter TOG. Nest Designs lighter TOGs include 0.23 TOG, 0.5 TOG, 0.6 TOG, and 1.0 TOG.
Compared to our heavier TOG wearable blankets (3.5 TOG), our lightest sleep suit (0.23 TOG) is 13 times lighter. Our lightweight sleep sacks and footed sleep sacks (known previously as our sleep suits) are meant for room temperatures of:

Our sleep sacks for younger bubs come in sleeveless, short sleeve, ¾ inch sleeves, and long sleeves. Our footed sleep sacks come in both short and long sleeves. If your bubs likes to keep their arms warm at night, you can choose a long sleeve footed sleep sack.
Depending on the option you choose, all of our sleepwear are made of different materials. For example, our 0.23 TOG short sleeve sleep suit is made of bamboo and silk. Rayon bamboo is breathable, thermal regulating, and fast drying. The combination of silk and bamboo make it a perfect ultra-lightweight sleep suit that is luxuriously smooth against your little bub's delicate skin.
TOG measures the warmth of the wearable blanket but not comfort - that’s why we use premium materials like our Signature Avo fabric, GOTs certified organic cotton, bamboo, and silk.
What’s the correct TOG for my baby?
To choose the correct sleep bag or footed sleep bag, you’ll need to consider some factors:
- What’s the temperature of your child’s room? Your home thermostat measures the temperature of the surrounding area. To find the temperature of your child’s room, you can get an indoor room thermometer and place it near your child's sleep area.
- What are you dressing them in at bedtime? Depending on the temperature, your child may wear a diaper or PJs under their wearable blanket. This adds extra insulation. To know what to dress your child in, you will need first see what temperature their room is and find then choose the wearable blanket.
TOG helps your child keep cool and comfortable
Choosing the right TOG for your child’s wearable blanket will help keep them comfortable and safe during their naps and at night. By keeping them cool, you can avoid having your child overheat. The right sleep sack or foot sleep sack for your baby depends on many factors including the TOG, the material, and the temperature of your child’s sleep space. Finding the right wearable blanket will help keep you and your baby well-rested.
